"In Case You Didn't Know" is a vocal recorded by American country pop vocalist Brett Immature and co-written by Young, Jay Taylor, Tyler Reeve, and Kyle Schlienger. It was released to radio on Jan nine, 2017 equally the second single from his debut self-titled anthology (2017).[2] The song has been certified three× Platinum by the RIAA, the first song past Brett Young to receive a Platinum certification.[3]

The song was written in 2016 during a working trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.[4] Young co-wrote the song at the retreat with Tyler Reeve, Kyle Schlienger, and Trent Tomlinson. According to Young, the inspiration for the vocal came from a story told by Peters near his married woman Brandy: "[Peters] said when he was a kid, his mom would not be the blazon to say "I love you" simply he seemed to always know it in some fashion. Peters married his married woman in March 1998 and he wanted to testify his love for her by co writing this vocal."[3]

In 2017, Young released a duet version of the song with Irish vocaliser Una Healy.[5]

Commercial performance [edit]

The vocal first entered on Billboard 's Hot Country Songs chart at number 45 for the week of August six, 2016 after information technology was featured on The Highway in July 2016, selling nine,000 copies that week. It also peaked at number two for a record of 16 consecutive weeks simply it was kept out of the top spot by "Trunk Like a Dorsum Road" past Sam Hunt.[vi] [seven] The vocal debuted on the State Airplay chart at number 52 for the calendar week of December 24, 2016 before its official release in January 2017. It peaked at number 1 for the calendar week of June 10, 2017, making it Young'due south first number one hitting of his career.[8] The song reached over a 1000000 in actual sales by January 2018.[9] On April 11, 2019, the single was certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for over 4 million combined sales and stream units in the United States.[10] Information technology has sold one,263,000 copies in the The states as of November 2019.[11]

The music video was directed by Jennifer Rothlein.[12]

Young climbs out of the dorsum of a taxi cab and, after a few backstage shots, performs the song to an empty Tivoli Theatre consisting of simply his desired woman in the audience (played by Sara Morgan).[thirteen] [14] [15] She presently disappears, yet, and the video ends as Young walks out the forepart doors of the theatre and downwardly the sidewalk into the altitude.
